Nodeslam

So! Here’s my audio challenge for next month’s Nodeslam: record a piece of original music (or just pick out a pre-recorded bit that you happen to have lying around) and send it to roguepoet@nodeslam.com.

(…and, of course, this challenge goes out to lady musicians too, despite the foolishness above.)

Do you sing? Do you play an instrument? Do you program digital loops & beats? Lovely. I want to hear it.

Next month’s episode is going to be a showcase of tunes made by noders. I propose this in the spirit of QXZ’s Nanobot Deathmatch, but really I just like an excuse for talented people to send me music.

The song (or track, or what-have-you) doesn’t have to be about E2, but choosing something E2-inspired or E2-related– or just something that you think an E2 audience would find particularly meaningful– would be a big plus. Let me worry about that, though. As long as its something you’re willing to have remixed and released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license, please hit send. I’ll try hard to use every scrap of audio that people send my way.

Depending on the type of recordings I get, I’ll either present them straight (all Casey Kasem/Carson Daly/Garrison Keillor-style) or maybe attempt some kind of more complicated mix or ill-conceived mash-up.

The deadline for this challenge is January 6th, 2010. I’m excited to hear what you all create.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to send your audio my way:

1. Record an original piece of music (or a piece of music that someone else wrote, so long as you have permission to release it under CC or public domain). If you don’t have audio recording software, try Audacity. It’s free.

2. Export your recording to your choice of audio format: mp3, wav, ogg, or flac.

3. If you have your own webspace, upload your file there. If you don’t, go to Mediafire.com and follow their directions to create a free account and upload your audio file.

4. Send a /msg to RoguePoet on E2 with a link to your audio file, or email your link to roguepoet@nodeslam.com.

If you get your recording to me by January 6th, I’ll download your audio & mix it in to the next episode of Nodeslam, which I’ll be releasing around the second week of January. Thanks! Party on!
