Dead air, um… dead air

H’okay, so: I still haven’t finished either of the two episodes I’m currently putting together.

On one, I’m still looking to get permission for more material. On the other, there’s a part that I want to field-record outside and each day I’ve planned to do it, it’s either been too windy, too rainy, or I’ve been otherwise too preoccupied.

My goal remains to release a Nodeslam each month, but I think the self-imposed deadline of promising them on a specific date was a bit more bluster than I can back up with my current skillz. Instead– until I get better at the basics of audio production– I’ll go with a more waffly schedule and say “a new Nodeslam will drop sometime between the 13th and the final day of every month”.

As always, two good ways to find out when a new Nodeslam arrives will be to add this link to your RSS reader of choice: http://nodeslam.com/?feed=rss2 or follow @Nodeslam on Twitter.

Thank ya!

Episode 02 pushed to next Monday

I AM BECOME AMATUER PODCAST, DESTROYER OF DEADLINES

So my plan is to release 12 episodes of Nodeslam this year– specifically, a Nodeslam on the 13th of each month.

Right now, I’m working on two: “Episode 02: Nanobot Rematch” (the noder-music-centric episode I mentioned last time) and “Episode 03: Feather Light Touch” (which will, hopefully, feature a reading of [When in doubt, choose wings not shoes] & other lovelies).

Tragically, neither of them are done.

So: I’ve decided to push Nanobot Rematch to next month, and finish Feather Light Touch this weekend. I’ll post up the final product on Monday.

Assuming I’ve learned my lesson, Nodeslam #3 will drop on February 13, #4 on March 13, and so on. WE SHALL SEE.

Audio challenge for the December episode

RoguePoet says Hey Tim, I mentioned your writeup we again at the end of the first episode of my new audio project: Nodeslam.

RoguePoet says My idea is to get a bunch of people to read it, make an audio collage out of the resulting audio, and release the whole thing under Creative Commons as part of the next episode. Is that something you’d be okay with?

e2reneta says Re we. Awesome. Go for it! (I’d be interested in reading, too, if you need another voice).

Woo! Folks, here’s a repeat of my audio challenge for next month:

1. Read the E2 writeup we by e2reneta.

2. Record yourself reading all or part of it. (If you don’t have audio recording software, try Audacity. It’s free.) My one guideline: Please do your best to avoid background noise and don’t mix in any music. I’m going to be layering your audio together with other submissions so the cleaner the better.

3. Export your recording to your choice of audio format: mp3, wav, ogg, or flac.

4. If you have your own webspace, upload your file there. If you don’t, go to Mediafire.com and follow their directions to create a free account and upload your audio file.

5. Send a /msg to RoguePoet on E2 with a link to your audio file, or email your link roguepoet@nodeslam.com.

If you get your recording to me by December 1st, I’ll download your audio & mix it in to the first (real) episode of Nodeslam, which I’ll be releasing around the first week of December. Thanks! You rock!

A WINNER IS NODESLAM

Hey, we took first prize in Jet-Poop’s Everything2 Ten-Year Anniversary Contest for Fun and Awesomeness!

Thanks to the fine people of Panel Awesome for voting for us, and congrats to the other winners, Timeshredder and Aerobe!

(For what it’s worth, I also thought Oolong’s rendition of “Let My People Code” was pretty great. Somebody buy that guy a pint.)

Two Sheds & are I going to split the fabulous prizes 50/50: the jaypea bunny and the copy of Lucy’s book to me, the bitchin’ poster and the Amazon gift cert to Sheds.

But most of all, thanks everyone for listening.

When will then be now? Soon.

Hey noders. A quick note for those of yah coming here from The Everything2 Ten-Year Anniversary Contest for Fun and Awesomeness:

I’ve been procrastinating like mad on this project, but J-P was still good enough to let my entry squeak in under the wire. The true, real-deal pilot episode/audio-collage/thingy of Nodeslam is about 75% done. I’m hoping to have it up within the next 24 hours.

Nodeslam: like the nodegel, only louder

Still tuning the radials and reticulating the splines. Keep your eyes open & your powder dry, noders.

Things are coming.

Perhaps even good things.
